How it works

Four steps and one person to talk to.

You cannot just hang a charger on the wall. It needs its own protected circuit, a type B residual current device, a cable run back to the consumer unit and a commissioning inspection. Most people come unstuck not on the wiring, but on the fact that every part is done by someone else.

01

Free survey

We come out, photograph the consumer unit and propose where the charger goes and how the cable runs. Half an hour, no obligation.

02

Final price

One figure broken down into materials, labour and the inspection. Valid for 30 days. No “from–to”.

03

Paperwork handled

We file the notification with PREdistribuce. If capacity needs increasing, we arrange that too.

04

Installation and inspection

Fitting, configuration, a test charge with your car and the inspection report in your hand.

Placement

Where the charger goes

It almost always comes down to one of three options. The distance from the consumer unit and where you park decide which.

On the garage wall

The cheapest option. The consumer unit is usually a few metres away, the cable runs in trunking and nothing needs digging. The charger stays dry and out of the frost.

On the front wall by the car

For parking in front of the house. The supply goes through the wall or under the plaster. An outdoor unit needs a weather rating for rain and frost.

The cable run decides the cost

On a post by the drive

For a spot in the garden where there is no wall. The cable runs in a duct underground, so a trench is needed. The delay tends to be in the landscaping, not the wiring.

The trench drives the price, not the charger

What you don’t see decides the insurance claim

Its own protected circuit, a type B RCD, correctly sized cable. This part of the job disappears behind the consumer unit door — and it is exactly what the insurer asks about when something goes wrong.

Price

What it costs at a house

Most companies in this trade keep the price back until you call. Here are the brackets up front. The final figure comes after the survey and does not change.

Simple installation from CZK 28,000

Consumer unit within 5 metres, room for new breakers, enough capacity on the connection. Typically a house garage.

Most common from CZK 38,000

A 10–25 metre cable run, an extended consumer unit, new breakers and a type B RCD. Trunking or under the plaster.

With a trench individual quote

Underground duct to a separate parking spot, longer runs, increasing the reserved capacity with the grid operator.

12% VAT instead of 21%

On a completed residential building, installing a wallbox falls under the reduced VAT rate as construction and assembly work. The condition is that you buy the charger together with the installation as a single job, not separately from an online shop. On a CZK 38,000 job that is a difference of around three thousand.

An indicative price in two minutes

Five questions and we will tell you what we would propose and roughly what it costs. We do not ask for your details — those only when you want an exact figure.

Running costs and grants

You pay for the installation once. For electricity every month.

What you pay afterwards comes down to two things — where the power comes from and which tariff you are on. And then there is the question we get most often: do I qualify for a grant?

Charging from solar surplus

A charger that measures and modulates its output draws only what you are generating above the house load. Instead of exporting the surplus at the buy-back rate, you put it in the car.

How it works in practice →

The D27d tariff

A distribution tariff for households with an electric car. It gives a longer off-peak window that overnight charging fits into comfortably. It comes with conditions, and not everyone meets them.

D27d conditions →

Grants, and when you qualify

A charging point is a supported measure under Nová zelená úsporám. You usually cannot apply for it on its own, though — it tends to be tied to another measure, most often solar.

FAQ

What house owners ask

How long does the installation take?

If the consumer unit is in the garage or close to the parking spot and has room, the installation including the inspection is done in one working day. A longer cable run, chasing walls or a trench in the garden extends it to two days.

Do I need a permit?

No building permit. The installation does have to be reported to the distribution grid operator — PREdistribuce in Prague. We file that for you. If your existing capacity cannot take the load, an increase is arranged at the same time.

Is 11 kW or 22 kW better?

For a house, almost always 11 kW. Higher output only helps if your connection can take it and your car can use it — Most cars have an onboard charger limited to 11 kW, so 22 kW would go unused. Why more power usually does not help →

Can I just use a normal socket?

For an occasional top-up yes, as a permanent solution no. A domestic socket is not built to run near its maximum for hours at a time. What happens, and what a portable charger can do →

Do I need to buy the charger first?

You do not, and it usually does not pay. Buying the charger together with the installation as a single job qualifies for the reduced 12% VAT rate. Buying it separately from an online shop does not.

What if my consumer unit is old?

More common than people expect. A wallbox needs its own protected circuit and a type B RCD, and a full consumer unit rarely has room. We find that at the survey and put it in the price, not in the final invoice.
